Do You Ship Custom Packaging to the Neighbor Islands?

Yes. Every order for a Hawaii business arrives on Oʻahu first. There it is broken down and sent on to your island, either by FedEx or on the Young Brothers barge, to Maui, Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi Island, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi. That one fact explains almost everything else about neighbor island delivery. Your bags do not travel straight from the factory to Hilo or Kahului. They make the long ocean trip to Honolulu with everyone else's freight, then take one more trip across the channel. Knowing that second leg is there is what lets you plan around it.

How Long Does Packaging Take to Reach a Neighbor Island?

Plan on the same 9 to 12 weeks from artwork approval that every Hawaii order takes, and then a little more for the trip from Oʻahu to your island. How much more depends on the barge. The inter-island barge runs on its own sailing schedule to each island, so once your order is broken down in Honolulu, it goes out on the next sailing to your island. That extra handling is the whole difference. Nothing about your bags changes on the way. They simply wait for their ride. The practical habit is the same one we give every Hawaii customer: count backward from the day you need bags in hand. For a neighbor island business, start that count from your delivery date, leave room for the barge leg, and then work back through shipping and production to the day your artwork needs approval. Our Top 10 Hawaii packaging questions walks through the 9 to 12 weeks, and our post on why bags spend more time curing than printing explains where the weeks actually go. Does Shipping to a Neighbor Island Cost Extra?

Not for standard shipping. Standard shipping and customs clearance are already built into the price we quote you, wherever you are in Hawaii. The one time you pay extra is when you choose to speed part of the order up. If you need some of your bags faster than the barge can bring them, we can send that portion by air cargo or courier, and that faster service is the added cost.

Can I Get Part of My Order Sooner?

Yes. You can have a portion of the order expedited by air cargo or courier while the rest comes over by barge. This is the best tool a neighbor island business has. Picture Pueo Ridge Coffee, an imaginary family coffee farm on Hawaiʻi Island. Pueo Ridge has a festival weekend coming up and needs a few cases of new bags for the booth, but the full order can follow at the normal pace. Instead of paying to fly the whole order, they fly the few cases the festival needs and let the barge bring the rest. The extra cost covers only the bags that truly cannot wait.

Can I Pick Up My Order Myself?

Yes. Some customers ask for a will-call, where they pick up a few cases or the whole order at the trucking company's warehouse instead of waiting for delivery. If that suits your schedule better, tell us when you order.

Can One Order Be Delivered to Two Islands?

Sometimes. If the order is large enough to split sensibly into two pallets, for example a farm on Hawaiʻi Island and a café on Oʻahu sharing one order, we can look at sending each pallet to its own address. Smaller orders ship together to one address, because splitting them adds handling and cost without saving any time.

How Do Samples Reach the Neighbor Islands?

Quickly. Samples are small, so they go out in FedEx envelopes and do not wait for the barge. That makes samples the easy first step. Fill a sample bag with your own coffee or product, check the size and the closure in your own kitchen, and decide before the full run is on its way. Our post on ordering packaging samples first lists exactly what to check.

What Holds Up Neighbor Island Deliveries Most Often?

A delivery address that changed after the order was placed, and nobody told us. It is the most common delivery problem we see, and it is not only a neighbor island problem. It happens on every island. A farm moves its packing into a new commercial kitchen. A café opens a second location. Someone puts their home address on the order and later wants the bags at the shop. Weeks pass between the order and the delivery, and the change never reaches us. On the neighbor islands it can cost more time, because a shipment headed to the wrong address has to be rerouted, and the barge leg is already part of the trip. The fix is simple:
  • Tell us the moment your address changes, even if the order was placed weeks ago.
  • Send a contact name and phone number for whoever will receive the delivery.
  • Mention any delivery limits, such as a farm road, no loading dock or a shop that is only open some days.

How Savor Brands Helps Neighbor Island Businesses

We are based in Honolulu, so the shipping calendar between the islands is part of how we plan every Hawaii order.
  • Planning backward from your date. Tell us when you need bags in hand, and we will work back through production, shipping and the barge leg so the artwork deadline is clear from the start.
  • Shipping and customs in the quote. Standard shipping and customs clearance are already in the price.
  • Options when time is tight. Expedite a portion by air cargo or courier, pick up by will-call, or split a large order into two pallets for two locations.
  • Samples by FedEx envelope, so you can test before the full run ships.
  • Low minimums. Digital printing starts at 500 bags per design, which suits small farms and seasonal releases.
You can talk any of this through with Tessa, our Hawaii specialist, and see the brands we work with across the islands on our Hawaii packaging page.

One More Leg, Planned Ahead

Every Hawaii order comes through Oʻahu, and neighbor island orders take one more trip on the barge. Standard shipping and customs are already in your quote. Plan the usual 9 to 12 weeks plus the barge leg, expedite only the cases that cannot wait, use samples to decide early, and tell us the moment your address changes. Do that, and the extra leg is just part of the plan. If you are on Maui, Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi Island, Molokaʻi or Lānaʻi and planning your next order, tell us your date and we will help you work back from it.
